Snow in Vancouver?
So Saturday it started to snow in Vancouver. While we do get snow in Vancouver, it generally doesn’t snow for too long before turning to rain, and it almost never sticks. However Saturday it did snow, and continued to snow, and has snowed steady since then. There is close to a foot now on the ground from all reports this is going to continue to mid week. Today I went for a little walk around the neighborhood and took a few shots of the snow. You can find the photos here:

An little story about the snow on Saturday. My friend Joern and his girlfriend Crystal came over to watch the hockey game and otherwise just hang out. They took off later that night at around 1:30am. A minute or two after I let them out of my place my buzzer rang, and it was them outside. I let them back in and ask what is going on? They both had terrible looks on their face and proclaimed, “Someone hit our car!”.
So I went outside with them to examine their car, and sure enough there back end was nicely crunched in. They had parked right at the end of the street, so someone likely just slide into them while going through the intersection. While we were standing there some people walking by inquired about if that was his vehicle etc and what happened. Just then a police car drove by. The people walking by started waving at the police car, however it appeared as if they didn’t see them. However right behind the police car was a ghost car, which stopped for us. Joern and Crystal inquired about the procedures to calling in the claim and dealing with insurance when it is a hit and run. As we were talking to the police (who now had their lights on in their car) a big truck drove by and stopped. A guy in the front seat yelled out at the police, “Are you here because of that car?” pointing to Joerns Mazda. He continued on without letting us answer, “Well because if you are I saw the whole thing, and I have the guys license plate number written down and everything. The guy just drove right into the back of your car, then nice and slowly he proceeded to drive away as if nothing happened!”.
Joern proceeded to get the license plate info, and the guys contact information while the policed did a check on the plates. It appeared as if this was a company car. I have a feeling that person will be getting a stern talk on Monday morning.
What random luck though. I found it crazy how just in the span of 5 minutes, first some people walking by wave down a police car which just happens to be driving past us when they are there, then by chance in the same timespan that truck drives by and notices the police car with its lights on and gives Joern the witness account of the hit and run.
I guess there still is a little good in people!
