Free the Rich, Tax the Poor
Kyle in his post on February 2 eluded to the fact the Conservatives are thinking about removing estate tax on inherited belongings/wealth. While in some ways you can see the benefit of such a tax break, as for people who inherit some property or items who do not have a lot of wealth themselves it can be a bit daunting to have to deal with all the taxes they would have to pay on those items. However the true reality is that in general wealth inherits wealth, meaning poor people general don’t inherit a lot of wealth. So who is this tax break aimed at? The families of the very rich who do not want to pay taxes to support the betterment of Canada.
This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to proposed tax cuts from this government. The worst in my opinion is the removal of capital gains tax on money that is reinvested. Again this is a tax that will mainly benefit people with a lot of money to begin with, mainly because people who are being taxed heavily on capital gains are people who make a lot of money via stock markets or other investments. Another example of how the conservatives of this country following the lead of the US neo-con ideals are trying to provide a culture where the very rich are the major recipients of the benefits of the country while the poor are slowly pushed further down while more burden is put on the shrinking working middle class. This suites the wealthy just fine, because they don’t want to see an equalization of wealth as in such a situation they likely see their wealth decrease. The best case scenario for a wealthy person is for an extremely polarized population between rich and wealthy as this ensures they stay on top.
But hey maybe I would think differently if I was extremely wealthy… and lacked a social conscience.
