What’s Going on?

Good question. Lots of hockey for starters, busy at work, and otherwise just living.

I am currently reading Hegemony or Survival by Chomsky, so far pretty good. Really ties a lot of things together and puts a bit of structure to the madness of why the US does the things they do.

I recently watched a couple really good movies, both actually with a similar feel of connections. The first called Crash (no not the Cronenberg film), ties together the lives of several people living in LA. It deals heavily with relationships between races, and by doing ties together the many different people in the story. Many of the characters in the film were quite stereotypical, however it worked with the film because of the many different plot lines and characters and lack of time for character development. By using the steotypical charters it also allowed the film to focus more on the story it was telling rather than worry about getting through to the viewer who each character was. A very excellent film that I recommend.

The second film I watched recently was called Syriana. Another film that tied the lives of many different people together on a common goal. However Syriana did this on a much grander scale, at a very much higher level. The theme of this movie was oil and everyones connection to it. It focuses on several different characters all playing different roles in different places in the world, and how they are all connected. While things were a bit harder to follow in this movie I really think it was done well, it felt very real, and not over the top. I think if I would watch it again I would pick up a lot more and understand a lot more. Regardless I still really enjoyed this movie and think it is definitly worth a watch, or two!

Last concert I was at was Wintersleep at Richards on Richards. They were the band that opened for Pearl Jam in St. Johns. We actually talked with them a couple times on our drive to St. Johns without even knowing who they were. We talked with them after their show and they said they really wanted to tell us they were opening for Pearl Jam but didn’t want to sound like asses… you know “Uhh yeah so guess what guys? Yeah we are opening for Pearl Jam, how do you like that?” Anyway a bunch of really cool guys, and a great band at that. Glad I got to check out there show.

Other than that yeah life has just been really busy, has been since I got back from the trip. I don’t anticipate that to change much till maybe after Christmas, who knows.
