Paul Cellucci is an Idiot

Paul Cellucci the US ambassador to Canada today announced that Canada will back the missile defense plan and was very confident that a deal would be made in the next few months. I am curious to know what Cellucci knows that the rest of the nation doesn’t, because last I heard Paul Martin seemed to be wavering on the missile defense plans during his Christmas interview. To me this seems like classic Cellucci, trying to tell us how to run our country. Last I checked though Canada is a sovereign country where over 60% of the population is against missile defense. I think it is time for Canada to finally stand strong and tell the US we will not participate in their plans for missile defense. Today I wrote a letter to Prime Minister Martin addressing the issue. You can find it below:

Dear Prime Minister Martin,

Today I was shocked to read in the news that Mr. Paul Cellucci said that Canada will back the US missile defense plan. He also went on to say that the federal government will support the plan. I am saddened to hear this news as you told the nation a decision on missile defense would be made only after having debated the issue in the house.

I plead to you Prime Minister to re-evaluate the missile defense system and to go against the US wishes and stand up for Canada and our country. Missile defense is opposed by the majority of Canadians and goes against true Canadian values. Canada is a peaceful nation and that is shown clearly by our many peacekeeping efforts, the anti-landmine treaty, and our support for an international judicial system. By signing onto the missile defense system would be throwing away a huge part of what makes Canada great.

The missile defense system is a system that does not work, and will not work. It is a flawed system that will cause further destabilization and a new arms race, as other nations will try to develop new weapons to fight against it. I urge you Mr. Prime Minister to oppose missile defense and to focus Canada’s attentions on more pressing concerns such as helping the victims of the tsunami, global poverty and the AIDS epidemic.

Mr. Martin, during the election you promised to listen to Canadians. We are urging you to keep Canada out of missile defense.

I await your reply,

Stefan Klopp

Amen! I’d call Cellucci a lot more than an idiot, though.
